Water Pollution

New Orleans water is often contaminated because of the frequent flooding and infrastructure failures that occur as a result of powerful hurricanes. Below are some statistics and charts illustrating the issue:

New Orleans' antiquated infrastructure is a major source of pollution. In terms of water pollution, the above image illustrates the serious need for new water pipes.

The image to the left shows the E. coli levels found in various areas of the New Orleans region after Hurricane Katrina. The bacteria E. coli is only one of the many unhealthy substances found in the water after the hurricane.

The above image is from the City of New Orleans website and dictates the necessary steps to getting clean water when the city is under a boil water advisory. A boil water advisory is implemented when the city's water is deemed unsafe.
